usic and festival enthusiasts should mark in red the Region of Valencia as an enjoyable vacation destination. The Region is stands out in the national scene, and every year more internationally, as one of the territories with more and superior music festivals in the world.

Festivals such as Les Arts, Arenal Sound, FIB or Medusa Sunbeach gather thousands of people each year and rank the Region of Valencia as one of the favorite destinations for music enthusiasts and festival-goers.

This growing popularity, regarding the increasing number of audiences, is also causing great figures of national and international music to take interest in performing on the stages of these festivals. Thus, each year the lineup of the Region’s festivals improve and manage to book the great figures of the moment.

Since the creation of the International Festival of Benicàssim (FIB) in 1995, the Region of Valencia has become a great organizer of festivals, to the point of hosting the two largest nationally, both in the province of Castellón: Arenal Sound, with 300,000 attendees, and Rototom, with 220,000.

Around 1 million people visit the Region of Valencia between May and September to enjoy the nearly 20 musical macro-events organized. Therefore, a musical festival fan could spend all summer in the Region festival hopping.

The summer premiere takes place during the weekend of 7 and 8 June with the Festival de les Arts, located in the heart of the city of Valencia. After four successful editions, this is its 5th anniversary, and it already has the confirmations of artists such as Vetusta Morla, Rozalén, Azahara or Iván Ferreiro.

The second major music festival is FIB, which takes place between 18 and 21 July in the town of Castellón in Benicàssim. This festival inaugurates summer in Castellón and this year it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The fact that it takes place next to the beach makes it very popular among festival enthusiasts, who can enjoy music and water from early in the morning until late in the afternoon. Lana del Rey, The 1975, Cupido, Cariño, Blossoms and La Maravillosa Orquesta del Alcohol are the festivals´ first confirmations. With hardly time to recover from the FIB festival, comes Arenal Sound, which takes place between 30 July and 4 August on Burriana beach. This is the most crowded festival in Spain and proof of the popularity of this event is that, even before the lineup was announced, 50,000 tickets for the event were sold – in just 14 hours -.

To conclude summer, August concentrates the other two most popular festivals nationwide: Medusa Sunbeach and Rototom Sunsplash. Medusa Sunbeach of Cullera managed to sell half of its capacity in less than a month, due to its popularity for attracting the best Dj’s of the moment. In its 6th edition they have already announced their next theme, “Secret of Wonderland”, in which fantasy and tales are the main leitmotifs. The date will be the week of 7 – 12 August and its first headliner will be the acclaimed Belgian duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, currently number 2 in the world on the prestigious Dj Mag list and representatives of the Tomorrowland Festival.

Rototom Sunsplash, the most popular reggae music festival in Spain, takes place between 16 and 22 August and it usually mixes reggae veterans and music idols with the new generations of this musical genre. On its 25th anniversary – last year – they managed to have a lineup of 200 artists. Moreover, it is a festival very aware of social causes. Last year they developed, in this framework, a solidarity campaign with their non-profit organization “Exodus” to collaborate with the NGO Proactiva Open Arms, whose main objective is to save lives in the Mediterranean.

The Region also has other well-known festivals among music followers that are experiencing a very rapid growth, such as Montgorock (Xàbia), the Low Festival (Benidorm), the Iboga Summer Festival (Tavernes de la Valldigna ), the Rabolagartija (Villena) or the Marenostrum Xperience (València).
